Safe and effective homemade toothpaste recipe

As a contemporary romance novelist, I know all about the importance of a first kiss. Below you can see a snippet from the novel I’m querying, Twist of Fate, featuring Brooklyn and Trevor‘s first kiss. In honour of locking lips and getting up close and personal, I’m also sharing my safe and effective homemade toothpaste recipe.

Why on earth would you want to make homemade toothpaste and why isn’t your current store bought brand safe? Well, most commercial toothpastes contain glycerol or propylene glycol, which are also used in antifreeze.

If that’s not bad enough, there are a slew of other hard-to-pronounce and dangerous ingredients that have been linked to everything from skin irritation to hormone disruption to cancer. No, thank you!

Many people are getting more conscious about what they eat, but they forget that their skin absorbs 60% of what is applied to it. If you can’t pronounce an ingredient, chances are good that your body doesn’t need it.

After losing my dad, I became obsessed with detoxifying my home and my body. I have done countless hours of research into making my own personal care and cleaning products and I consider it time well spent.

However, if you aren’t interested in doing the same, I highly recommend purchasing products the Environmental Working Group deems safe for consumers – check out their database, Skin Deep, or download the app and see how your current products measure up. I promise in this case ignorance is not bliss.

To kick start a healthy change, I’m sharing my super easy homemade toothpaste recipe with you today.

What is one healthy change you’ve made in your own life? Are you interested in more recipes like this one? I have developed countless, including for cosmetics!

Safe and effective homemade toothpaste

This creamy toothpaste is safe, effective, and non-toxic while still protecting your enamel. I have never had a cavity and my teeth are whiter than ever!

Best homemade toothpaste

  • 5 tablespoons of coconut oil, whipped
  • 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons of calcium powder
  • I do not consume essential oils and would never recommend doing so, but have use grated mint leaves or cinnamon for flavour and breath freshness

  1. Add the coconut oil to a large bowl and whip it with an electric mixer until it’s light and fluffy
  2. Gradually mix in the baking sodacalcium powder, and cinnamon (if you’re using it) until it’s well combined
  3. Store in glass container with an air tight lid or an empty toothpaste tube and keep at room temperature

That’s it! Small changes add up and you’ll be a healthier and happier person by eliminating toxins from your life. Questions? Don’t hesitate to contact me or comment below.
