Recess
All students from Grades K-5 have a 15-minute recess in the morning and in the afternoon. Divisional guidelines will be used to determine if weather conditions permit students going outdoors for the recesses.
Dismissal
Student safety is important to all of us. We wish to ensure that students move in a safe and orderly way in the building. Staff work hard to teach entry and exit routines with the children. Students will dress in their outdoor clothing in the classroom and then move to the boot/shoe storage area to pick up their outdoor footwear. To ease congestion in the halls and for fire safety, please wait for and meet your child at the front of the school. If you are picking up your Kindergarten child, from September to March you are asked to meet them at their classroom door. Following the Spring Break Kindergarten students will meet their parents/caregivers at the front of the school.
Early Dismissal Days
Students are dismissed at 2:55 p.m. (45 minutes early) on staff meeting days. The early dismissal days are recorded on the monthly calendar which is located on the last page of the monthly newsletter.
Newsletter and Courier envelopes
The newsletter will be emailed to parents and posted on the school website. Please use the calendar in the newsletter to assist you in planning medical appointments, etc. The newsletter contains important and interesting information - please take the time to read it carefully. Each Thursday the oldest or only child in a family will bring home a brown courier envelope. In the envelope will be any correspondence that needs to be shared with the family such as: newsletters, hot lunch order forms, community notes, important school notes etc. Families are asked to return the envelope with their child the next school day.
Kindergarten Registration
Children who will be 5 by December 31 of each year are eligible to register for Kindergarten. If you have a child to register, please bring a birth certificate or a baptismal record with you to confirm date of birth. You will also require proof of residency and your child's nine-digit medical number. 91PORN¹Ù·½ Kindergarten registration is held on the first Monday in March beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Grade 5 Farewell
At the end of each school year we hold a special celebration for our Grade 5 students who will be leaving Sherwood to attend middle schools.
