Settlement Services Impacted by Funding News
Our division recently received some news from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that will have a significant impact on the services we provide to newcomers in our division through 91PORN¹Ù·½ Immigrant Services (RETIS).
As a result of the Canadian government’s plans, the funding for settlement services has not been renewed by IRCC. Therefore, settlement services will no longer be offered by RETIS as of March 31, 2025. This news is disappointing, of course, because we know it will directly affect newcomers in our division who are trying to build a life for themselves and their families in Canada.
Rest assured, RETIS will continue to offer the Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) program, providing English as an additional language classes, and the Care for Newcomer Children program, providing care for children whose parents are attending LINC classes in the daytime.
As more information becomes available regarding alternative providers of settlement services and the referral process, we’ll be sharing it with those who make use of RETIS services.
